Former Vice President Joe Biden, having pretty much tied up the Democratic presidential nomination seems to have finally given up on sounding articulate.
Since the start of the race, Biden, 77, has been a walking gaffe machine provoking renewed criticism of the former vice president’s age and aptitude with each new slip-up.
After trailing off on MSNBC Tuesday, Biden appeared to throw in the towel.
“We have never, never, never, failed to respond to a crisis as a people, and I tell you what, I’m so darn proud. Those poor people who have…” Biden said before an awkward silence where he realized what he actually said.
“Anyway…” a defeated Biden finished with a sigh. The feeling is mutual for those who have been following throughout the campaign.

The interview comes as the pandemic over the Wuhan coronavirus has fundamentally shifted the way Biden and remaining rival Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are able to campaign in the absence of in-person live events. Biden however, managed to run away in the race to 1,991 delegates needed to clinch the nomination by carrying nearly every state to cast its ballots since Super Tuesday on March 3. As the contest currently stands, Biden leads with 1,214 delegates to Sanders’ 910.
Biden has also been coughing during several recent live interviews, ironically after declaring to be in good health on CNN. At one point, CNN’s Jake Tapper directed Biden to cough into his arm as advised by public health officials.
“You know, you’re supposed to cough into your elbow… I learned that actually covering your White House,” Tapper said.
“Fortunately I’m alone in my home, but that’s okay,” Biden said. If that’s true, it remains a mystery who set up the camera and microphone in his living room.

In the last Democratic debate, the first question posed to the candidates centered on the Wuhan virus where Biden began with a cough.
